１８日に届いたイスラエル人のギラ・シヴィルスキーさんからの緊急メールです。
ギラさんは、西エルサレムで黒猫（ものすごく毛並みがいい。）と
二人で暮らすイスラエル市民。
数々のイスラエル人権団体で活躍後、Coalition of Women
for Peace（イスラエル・パレスチナの女性たちによる「公正な和平の
ための女性連合」）を仲間と共に立ち上げ、さまざまな活動を精力的
に行っています。

私たちは、みなさんの助けを必要としています。
現在、ガザ地区、特にラファの町は危機的な状況にあり、その光景は
2002年春のイスラエルによるジェニンとナブルスへの侵攻を思い起こさ
せます。

今日現在（＊１８日）までにパレスチナ人18名（＊この日だけで２０名が
確認された）が殺害されたにもかかわらず、この軍事行動はなおも続
いています。
先週末には116軒の家屋が破壊され、1,000名を超える住民が家を
失いました（www.btselem.org）。
さらに何百軒もの家屋の破壊が企図されています。

ラファ内部から日々劇的で生々しい報告をしてくれているアミーラ・ハッスは、
住民たちが軍用ブルドーザーの侵入を予期し、子どもや身の回り品を手当
たりしだいひっつかんで家から避難している模様を伝えてきています
（www.haaretzdaily.com）。

普段はIDF（＊イスラエル当局は『イスラエル防衛軍』、パレスチナの人々は
『イスラエル占領軍』と呼ぶ）の揺るぎない擁護者として知られるヤハード党
（前メレツ党）出身のヨシ・サーリドでさえ、ラファにおけるこの軍事行動を
≪戦争犯罪≫としています。友人のイナムが恐怖に声を震わせてわたしに
電話で伝えたところによれば、パレスチナ人のニュースキャスター
がその惨状に言葉を詰まらせ、泣き伏したそうです。

多くの人々──イスラエル人、国際組織、パレスチナ人──が、必死にこの
殺戮を止めさせようとしています。イスラエル人女性による平和運動は、この度
ハアレツ紙（＊イスラエルの大手新聞）に広告を掲載し、この暴力行為の即時
中止と、私たちイスラエル人によるすべての占領地域の明け渡しにつながる
和平協定のための交渉再開を呼びかけました。

（私たちは明記しました。「本当の意味での永久的な解決は交渉によって達成
されるのであって、破壊や報復、屈辱によって達成されるものではない」と。）
体を張って阻止できないものかと、今朝、女性40名がガザに車で乗りつけま
したが、ガザ地区への進入を軍によって妨害されています。女性たちはすで
にスーファ検問所にキャンプを設営し、軍がガザにおけるこの軍事行動を中止
しない限りそこを離れないと主張しています。

他の平和・人権保護組織も新聞広告を掲載し、その多くが、金曜日にはこの
女性たちに加わろうと大規模な代表団を組織しています。
国際的活動家の方々も反対の声をあげ始めてくださっていますが、さらに多くの
ご協力が、しかも早急に必要です。

Friends,

We need your help.
There is an emergency situation right now in the Gaza Strip and the town
of Rafah, in particular, with scenes that bring to mind Israel's invasion of
Jenin and Nablus in the spring of 2002. So far today, 18 Palestinians were
killed, but the action continues. Last weekend, 116 homes were destroyed,
making over a thousand people homeless (www.btselem.org). Hundreds more
are slated for destruction. Amira Hass, filing dramatic daily reports from
inside Rafah, describes the scenes of people grabbing their children and
whatever comes to hand and fleeing their homes, anticipating the entry of
the bulldozer-tanks (www.haaretzdaily.com). Even Yossi Sarid from the
Yahad Party (formerly called Meretz), normally a staunch defender of
the IDF, described actions in Rafah as "war crimes". My friend In'am
called me from Gaza trembling with fear, and reported that the Palestinian
news broadcaster broke down in tears as he spoke.
Many -- Israelis, internationals and Palestinians -- are desperately tryingto halt the bloodshed. The Israeli women's peace movement just placed an
ad in Ha'aretz calling for an immediate halt to the violence and renewal of
negotiations for a peace agreement that will extract us from all the
occupiedterritories ("True and enduring solutions," we wrote, "are attained
bynegotiation,not destruction, revenge or humiliation").
This morning, forty women droveto Gaza　to see if they could intervene
physically, but they are being prevented fromentering
Gaza by the army. The women have set up an encampment at the Sufa
checkpoint　and say they will not leave until the army stops its actions
there.
Other　peace and　human rights organizations have placed newspaper ads,
and many are　organizing a larger delegation to join the women on Friday.
International figures have begun to speak out, but we need more, and
quickly.
Can you please take a moment to write a letter (email or fax) or make a
phone call　to any or all of the list below? A sample letter is appended.
Please take a minute to try to save someone's life or home. Imagine that
you had　to walk out the door of your home at this very moment, with
nothing but what　your　arms can carry, and you would never see your
home or its contents ever　again.
